Today's weather is cold, dreary and icy with those gosh awful grey winter skies that seem to last wayyyy too long. It's the middle of February where March still gives you hope but then you remember it's snowed on Spring Break one too many times. The last thing this weather makes me want to do is go down to my cold, dark basement and come up with a workout. I want to put layers upon layers of comfy clothes on while cuddling up in bed and overdosing on Netflix. I want to turn on the fireplace and eat all the comfort food under multiple blankets. I do NOT want to workout.
These are the days where I need to workout the MOST! I have to convince myself to get dressed, which is step 1, and then for myself to at least go downstairs and turn the lights on. Then, I usually start on the treadmill to get my blood pumping and my brain to realize what I'm doing. I know that I'll always FEEL better and sleep better after working out. I don't have to always do a super hard workout that exhausts me. Sometimes just moving is an accomplishment in and of itself. Don't forget to give yourself credit for those times when you don't want to do anything or go to the gym! It's important to stay focused on your goals! Goals don't get accomplished overnight and they aren't easy. If they were easy then they wouldn't be your goals! They'd be just something you do on Wednesday's.
Figure out what motivates you and start there. Maybe it's just putting on your workout clothes. I mean, if you're dressed to workout then you might as well go workout right? Maybe it's turning on the lights in a cold basement and at least getting on the treadmill. That's a good start! Maybe it's loud, upbeat music that reminds you to wake up and pretend it's a spring day outside even if it's the dead of winter. Maybe it's browsing for new clothes and thinking about how good you'd look in that outfit if you toned up a few areas. Whatever it is that motivates you to move and to work towards your goals, DO IT! There's no shame in this game.
Motivation starts with YOU! It starts with your goals, your plans and your dedication to yourself. You deserve to accomplish your goals! You deserve happiness and that amazing sense of accomplishment when you meet those goals! Don't let yourself down. You made a goal, no go stick to it! Even in the gross, dark, cold, dreary winter days. Because soon, hopefully soon, it will be spring and time to wear those spring clothes you were dreaming about!
